Stomach Tightening Surgery
Men and women of all ages desire a tight, flat abdomen. Despite eating properly and exercising regularly many individuals still have difficulty firming up their stomach. The stomach tightening procedures, also known as a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, addresses the excess, loose skin, fat and muscle laxity that occurs either with pregnancy or significant weight loss that doesn’t respond to exercise or diet.
Tummy Tuck is one of the most common types of plastic surgery procedures that John W. Bass M.D. performs. We can help you get a flatter, firmer looking stomach that increases your confidence and gives you a flattering shape.
There are varying degrees of skin, muscle and tissue laxity as well as unwanted amounts of fat of the abdomen that have always been present or developed over time. Dr. Bass, our board- certified Phoenix plastic surgeon has taken a unique approach for the resolution of these concerns. Under general anesthesia, an incision is made low on the abdomen, known as bikini type incision. Liposuction is performed to remove any excess fat that is above their muscle. Muscles are tightened in the midline which brings in the waistline. The skin is then re-draped and sutured back onto the abdomen. Very careful suturing of the bikini incision is performed to assure a pencil-line thin scar. This special technique, referred to as the progressive tension suture technique allows for a more flattened abdomen above and below the belly button, and no drains are used.
For patients with significant weight loss and large amounts of excess skin, such as those after gastric bypass, Dr. Bass performs a combined procedure known as a corset abdominoplasty. The corset abdominoplasty addresses skin excess three dimensionally and circumferentially around the patient’s torso. Wearing post surgery support garments and for most patients taking it easy for about 10 days before beginning to resume normal routine is recommended.
